CHRISTMAS DAY LUNCH
This was our third Christmas at Bistro One46 and was a wonderful day for all involved. We hope our guests enjoyed their lunch as much as we enjoyed having them. The highlight this year – which is sure to make a regular DIS-appearance – was the Gingerbread house! The sumptuous 3 course lunch was preceded with the colourful canapé and a glass of sparkling from the local Yarrawa Estate in Kangaroo Valley.
It was disappointing that we had several tables of which we were unable to host so be sure to book early in future years. It’s a great day where we will spoil you with an all inclusive lunch – wearing of bon bon hats is preferable, but not compulsory!

JULY: Kangaroo Valley’s Christmas In July is at Bistro One46
Kangaroo Valley is the place to celebrate Christmas In July on the South Coast. July was a busy time in the valley with KV Getaways reporting a bumper winter month in accommodation rentals. Many houses were filled with people chasing winter Christmas-In-July memories. And many were made in the valley – with promises to return annually!
Bistro One46 held Christmas-In-July lunch and dinner on 26th July with all the trimmings – decorations, Christmas Tree and open fire! Popular this year, they were disappointed that they could not accommodate everyone so book early next year! The traditional glazed ham and roast turkey breast with cranberry compote followed by Traditional “Chrissy Pud” and brandy crème Anglaise, was delightfully accompanied by mulled wine or spiced warm Apple juice.
It was delightful to host Christmas In July for the Ulladulla Probus Club. I had to apologise for the weather though — it was warmer on that July day than it was on Christmas Day last year!
Be sure to tell everyone that Christmas in July is a great celebration in Kangaroo Valley! But get in early!

JUNE: Inaugural Yarrawa Estate Showcase Dinner at Bistro One46
The June long weekend features the South Coast Wine Festival and adding to the 2014 Festival was the inaugural Showcase Wine Dinner with Kangaroo Valley’s own winery, Yarrawa Estate. We are proud to have the Yarrawa wines on our menu at Bistro One46 which we believe enhances our customers’ experience of the South Coast, rather than just offering a drink with their meal.
On the Sunday night of the June long weekend, Chef Gerald Poelzl and his two apprentices presented a sophisticated five course dinner with matching wines. Attended by visitors to the valley as well as locals, it was an elegant and sumptuous evening. Mark and Sue Foster, owners of Yarrawa Estate were there to discuss the wines. You can see the 2014 menu here: Yarrawa Estate Showcase Wine Dinner 2014 and hope you can join us in 2015. See more about Yarrawa Estate wines at www.yarrawaestate.com and find accommodation at www.visitkangaroovalley.com.au.
Make a Long Weekend of it in Kangaroo Valley — horse-riding, fireworks and bon fire at the Friendly Inn on the Saturday night, canoeing — finished with the wine dinner on the Sunday night! Here are some photos from the Yarrawa Showcase Wine Dinner 2014.
APRIL 2014: 2nd Anniversary of Bistro One46
What a wonderful school holiday period Kangaroo Valley had in April 2014! The weather was perfect in Kangaroo Valley and the combination of public holidays made for a busy time for the village and the valley. And the end of April was the 2nd anniversary of Bistro One46’s opening. We enjoyed sharing this anniversary with friends, (ir)regulars and annual holidayers who visited the valley over Easter/ANZAC/school holidays. See my blog on anniversaries here.
